Choose a work bag from the inside out
A useful work bag starts with your load and route. Capacity, access and carrying comfort matter before colour or silhouette.
01
Measure the largest object
Measure your laptop or tablet with its sleeve, not just its advertised screen diagonal. Add a bottle, keys and anything you carry daily. Compare the listing’s internal compartment dimensions; external bag measurements may include padding and unusable space.
02
Match your journey
For a long walk, consider strap width and how the loaded bag sits. For crowded transport, secure closure and easy-to-reach essentials may matter more than a wide opening. A hand-carried tote can work well for a short trip but feel different after twenty minutes.
03
Check the small details
Look for a reinforced base, usable pockets and closure access when the bag is full. Water-resistant does not necessarily mean waterproof; check what the seller actually claims. If you carry electronics, do not assume a fashion bag provides impact protection.
04
Test with your normal load
Try the bag with your usual items, lift it and check both shoulders where appropriate. Assess empty weight as well as capacity. If returning an online purchase, keep packaging and follow the seller’s conditions; do not take it on a commute before deciding.
